Big Issue vendor wins Digital Empowerment Award

Big Issue vendor Simon Mott was recently hitting headlines as the first vendor to accept card payments. Simon bought his own chip and pin card machine from iZettle using the money he’d been able to save from selling The Big Issue to help boost his sales in an increasingly cashless society. We are extremely pleased to announce that Simon has won the ‘Special Judges’ Award’ at the Digital Empowerment Awards 2014. The awards, sponsored by The Lankelly Chase Foundation, saw over 70 entries from all over the UK. They consider projects using the growing potential of digital technologies such as the internet, social media, apps and SMS for improving the lives of homeless and vulnerable people.

Simon will be using the cash awarded with the prize to help other Big Issue vendors invest in card machines.
