CEO Stephen Robertson Takes on Sleep Out Challenge!

This year, Stephen Robertson, Big Issue Foundation Chief Executive, will join supporters and Big Issue vendors sleeping out in the stands of the Kia Oval to fundraise for the vital work of the Big Issue Foundation. Whilst this event isn’t representative of the realities faced by rough sleepers, we hope that supporters pushing the boundaries of their comfort zone will enable them to learn about some of the experiences many of our vendors face in their first few weeks of selling.http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=StephenRobertsonBigSleepOut2017

This year, Stephen Robertson, Big Issue Foundation Chief Executive, will join supporters and Big Issue vendors sleeping out in the stands of the Kia Oval to fundraise for the vital work of the Big Issue Foundation. Whilst this event isn’t representative of the realities faced by rough sleepers, we hope that supporters pushing the boundaries of their comfort zone will enable them to learn about some of the experiences many of our vendors face in their first few weeks of selling.

Whilst Stephen has taken on this challenge before, this is the first year the event will be fully exposed to the elements with very little shelter. Always a top fundraiser, he hopes to smash last year’s fundraising total of £1,180 and you can sponsor him here!

Stephen said ‘This is a vitally important event in our calendar. It raises awareness of some of the serious issues faced by people who are experiencing exclusion in many forms. It shines a spot light on the solutions offered by The Big Issue, the help that we offer through The Big Issue Foundation and raises the funds that are needed to enable our charity to offer opportunities and solutions for hard working Big Issue vendors. I am looking forward to meeting everyone on the night and taking part in the challenge.’

As well as taking on the challenge of sleeping out, Stephen will be chairing a panel discussion alongside vendors so that supporters have the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about selling the Big Issue and how the Foundation helps vendors. This sold out event also features a screening of Sleeping Rough, a docu-drama film following three different characters, looking at how each of them becomes homeless, the struggles they face whilst sleeping on the street, and what options they face. You can find out more about the event here and register your interest for next year!
