On Friday 25th November we are hosting The Big Sleep Out, your opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and get a glimpse of the cold and uncomfortable realities of sleeping rough.
Taking place at St John’s Church Waterloo, not only will you experience a safe but challenging sleeping environment for the night but also be treated to a whole host of entertainment, themed around the idea of home. Big Issue vendors will be on hand for an interactive panel discussion where they will share personal insights of living on the streets and a choir will fill the halls of St Johns; your bed for the night, with music.
Another feature of the night will be the screening of short documentaries by Chocolate Films; a film production company and Social Enterprise based in South London who were invested in by Big Issue Invest.
“Big Issue Invest, the social investment arm of The Big Issue was delighted to invest in Chocolate Films because it is a true example of a strong social enterprise. It is a successful film making company which also uses its profits to support an outreach and workshop programme, helping thousands of children and young people each year.” Glenn Arradon, Investment Manager commented.
For The Big Sleep Out, Chocolate Films have prepared a collection of documentaries which focus on the theme of Home to show you. The films feature people such as Tom, who recently left his home in London to go to China; Carol, who has been a foster parent to many children without a home and Ingrid, who has spent years designing her home.
Chocolate Films are also currently working on their flagship project called 1000 Londoners which aims to improve community cohesion. Recently, it has been praised for its extensive archive of documents on lives of fellow Londoners. Check it out here.
