Big Issue Foundation

How to give one donation and have twice the impact

From 12:00PM on Tuesday 29 November until 12:00PM on Tuesday 6 December, donations made to Big Issue Foundation through our online Christmas Challenge page will be doubled!

Big Issue Foundation is excited to have been selected to participate in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s largest match funding campaign.

Last year, thanks to so many generous supporters, the campaign raised over £24 million for the 928 participating charities. Big Issue Foundation surpassed our personal campaign target of £29,400 and raised £42,680.

For the 2022 Christmas Challenge, we’ve upped our target to £71,500 and will be raising money for our project, Building Better Futures

This year, our campaign will once again be supported by our wonderful match funding champion, The Monday Charitable Trust, as well as a handful of generous supporters, who will match every £1 donated up to an incredible total of £35,750.

What happens during the Christmas Challenge?

Donations made to our campaign via the Big Give will be doubled during the week. Donations to this project will be matched for 7 days starting on Giving Tuesday, 29 November – 6 December 2022.

If you would like to support our work this year, we highly recommend doing so during the Christmas Challenge, when your donation will be doubled and make even more of a difference to us.

One donation, twice the impact

It’s a tough time for everyone as more than 1 in 5 people in the UK are currently living in poverty, but Big Issue vendors are some of the hardest hit. Our Building Better Futures campaign will help vendors who are working to earn a living gain stability and take active steps forward.

Through one-to-one support we provide guidance, connections, and opportunities by addressing underlying issues, personal needs, removing barriers, and giving people the opportunity to progress.

All funds raised in the Christmas Challenge will be used to directly impact and improve the lives of people facing poverty on a daily basis. This includes helping people to:

  • Find and live in safe, secure, and decent housing.
  • Get the basic things in life like food, gas, electricity, water, and healthcare without worry.
  • Gain official documents such as I.D. and bank accounts as well as learn how to use and access online services.
  • Understand and manage their mental health and general wellbeing.
  • Get involved in community activities and hobbies.
  • Gain digital and financial management skills.
  • Connect to education and training.
  • Find and stay in work.

What do you need to do?

  • Add a calendar reminder to your diary for 29 November – 6 December 2022, including the link to our campaign page
  • Have your secure card details ready when you make your donation.
  • Give what you can and have it doubled. We recognise the cost-of-living crisis makes giving difficult for many of our supporters. We encourage those who are able to give to do so, but also suggest sharing the campaign if you’re not able to give.

Together, we can transform the futures of Big Issue vendors by giving them a fair chance to succeed.

Support someone in your own community

With our online vendor map, you can support a local vendor by supplementing their income with a subscription to Big Issue. For every annual subscription sold via a vendor, a vendor receives £50.
