Over 250 people took to the streets of London for The Big Night Walk, raising over £65,000 to support Big Issue vendors.
On Friday night, over 250 people took to the streets of London for The Big Night Walk, raising over £65,000 so far. In this unique 25th anniversary edition of the annual Big Night Walk, the route was extended to 25km spanning Camden, Soho, Westminster and the City to commemorate the past 25 years enabling thousands of vendors to access support for healthcare, housing, banking and to rebuild their aspirations.
To start the event, walkers heard from CEO Stephen Robertson, Service Broker Christy Isaac and popular Liverpool Street based vendor Paul Logan. Paul commented, “I was very impressed with the turnout and support of the people taking part in this year’s walk. The weather was perfect for the walk tonight and I’m glad we were able to smash the fundraising target.”
Starting at Shoreditch Town Hall, the 25km challenge featured 4 rest stops for walkers to refuel for the night with snacks kindly donated by Perkier, Tony’s Chocolonely, Lärabar, Pulsin and RXBar. This year, we’ve worked hard to reduce the environmental footprint of our events and Life generously donated canned water to prevent wasting single use plastic bottles. After up to seven hours of walking throughout the night, walkers returned to Shoreditch Town Hall to rest aching feet after a quick picture with their medal and a bite to eat provided by Pret a Manger via The Pret Foundation.
