Thank you to all our supporters who donated to our 2019 Winter Appeal. We are delighted to let you know the appeal raised over £54,000!
The Big Issue Foundation works exclusively with vendors that have chosen to begin a journey of self-help and change by selling The Big Issue magazine. Behind every outcome there is a human story, life-changing progress that should be celebrated.
Dariusz’s story is one we can all relate to – dreaming of a better life. He took a chance, like so many of us do, and hit some hurdles along the way. With the support of The Big Issue and The Big Issue Foundation, Dariusz is now back on track to finding a better life.
“I think it is important to support The Big Issue Foundation as they are really helping people who are trying to help themselves. No one expects to find themselves living in poverty. It is amazing to know individuals like you are out there who believe people can turn their lives around and are willing to support them to do so.”
The Big Issue Foundation believes in providing ‘A hand up, not a hand out’. We provide access to healthcare, housing, financial advice, training, education and vital services that the more fortunate of us take for granted such as: access to a GP or the keys to a place you can call home. Without essential help like this, Big Issue vendors can find themselves trapped in a routine constantly reinforcing the downward spiral, unable to escape.
Funds raised from the Winter Appeal will support our work across the country including the appointment of an additional Service Broker (front-line worker) in London. Almost half of Big Issue vendors are in the London area and it is hoped that the addition of another Service Broker will enable us to support even more vendors.
