Seven things we learnt from our explosive Noel Gallagher interview

The Big Issue's Noel Gallagher interview has gone supersonic – here's what we learnt from Noel about Brexit, brotherly love and Tony Blair

Noel 1385

It is the EXCLUSIVE NOEL GALLAGHER INTERVIEW that has got the world talking, Oasis fans hoping for a reunion, and the Gallagher siblings arguing yet again.

When our man Sam Delaney sat down with Noel Gallagher for this week’s cover story, we expected fireworks and fighting talk. We got that and much more besides. It’s on sale now.

But what has the extraordinary interview taught us about Noel’s view of the state of the nation, his relationship with his brother Liam, and the chance of Oasis ever playing together again?

1) The Oasis reunion could be on…

“Well it could [happen]. Of course it could,” Noel told us. “But there would have to be an extraordinary set of circumstances… I left the band 10 years ago. I think I’ve seen him twice in 10 years and both times we nearly ended up in a fight for no reason. I can’t envisage the morning I wake up and think I’d like to spend two years on the road, arguing all around the world with Liam.”

2) … but only if Liam takes a Twitter break

“He’d put his whole life on hold to get Oasis back together,” continued Noel. “But every tweet he sends out its another nail in the coffin of that idea. If you think for one minute I am going to share a stage with you after what you’ve said you are fucking more of a moron than you look.”

3) … which is looking unlikely

Judging by this Tweet in response to Noel’s comments, Liam will not stop crying his heart out on Twitter.

4) … and only if Liam stops insulting Noel’s family

“I just wish he’d fucking calm down with insulting my family,” said Noel. “There’s a lot of misogyny towards both my wife and daughter on the internet from his fans. And [it’s because] he likes to purport this myth that Oasis would be getting back together but my wife won’t let me.”

5) … which is also looking unlikely

When news of Noel’s interview went viral, Liam took to Twitter once again to hit back at his brother.

5) But Noel is happy about his little brother’s solo success

“It’s made him pull his finger out and work for a living at last,” he told us. “He’s selling more records and way more tickets than me so good luck to him, ride it until the wheels come off.”

6) Noel (reluctantly) thinks Brexit should happen

“It’s going to be fascinating to see how it works,” said Noel. “I mean, they talk about a border down the middle of the Irish Sea. How is that going to work? Is there going to be a little bloke sitting in a fucking rowing boat? I don’t think we should be leaving but now we’ve had the vote I think we have to leave. Because you have to let democracy take its course.”

7) And he might be the world’s last self-declared Blairite

“I was out about two months ago and I happened to bump into Tony Blair in the foyer of a hotel,” Noel revealed. “And I said: ‘I bet you’re glad you’re out of it now, aren’t you, mate?’ And he said: ‘Actually I’m not, I wish I was fucking back in it because it is fucked.’ Still to me he’s the only person when I hear him talking that makes any sense.”
