From cement bags to designer bags

Fikay Eco Fashion's bags are made from recycled cement bags, and help to support education and employment in Cambodia – buy from The Big Issue Shop

Fikay Eco Fashion’s unique and stylish bags, wallets and purses come from a company with ethical credentials at its heart.

At Fikay we asked ourselves: What if we could turn waste into cash and provide people with well-paid employment and support education in the process? What if we were more than just an ethical brand – what if we designed innovative, relevant “stuff” people actually wanted to wear? So this is what we did…

Naturally we pay a fair, competitive wage to local villagers

Fikay Fashion is simple. Every time you purchase a Fikay product, building bricks are donated to our educational projects across Cambodia which have the mission to build more schools, whilst providing education for children who otherwise couldn’t afford it. Naturally we pay a fair, competitive wage to local villagers, our ‘Women Entrepreneurs’ who create strong, water-resistant Fikay products out of locally sourced, upcycled materials, most of which are discarded cement bags. These products form the basis of our Elephant Brand and Tiger Brand merchandise.

Not only do our entrepreneurs receive a micro-loan to start their own businesses, plus professional training and a fair, competitive wage, but they also have the opportunity to learn valuable skills that enable them to have a sustainable, effective route out of poverty.

Fikay has been featured on BBC Radio, in the Guardian, The Evening Standard, several magazines, and in government reports. We will continue to do our very best to spread a message of fashion that brings hope and really does care.
