It’s Black Friday! Get 20% off street art at The Big Issue Shop this weekend

Budding art collectors, grab a bargain from one of our street artists this weekend!

If you’re feeling the urge to spend big on Black Friday deals this weekend, why not support causes with your hard-earned cash?

We’re offering 20% off all street art at The Big Issue shop!

Each week, The Big Issue magazine features art by talented, marginalised individuals. We make their art available to buy from The Big Issue shop, with at least half the profit from each sale going to the artist. The remaining profit is used to continue the mission of The Big Issue; to give people in poverty, the opportunity of a hand-up.

One such artist is Rene.

Put-Your-Best-Face-Forward---Rene-Robbins

The daughter of an architect, Rene enjoys working with geometric shapes, line and collage. Following the death of her husband and son, she experienced a period of homelessness. At a low point one of her friends invited her to attend an art project and she has been returning ever since.

“There’s always something new to see or learn,” says Rene. She works slowly and patiently due to a degenerative eye condition. Several of her works have been published and sold at exhibitions.

If Rene’s print isn’t your thing, how about this stunning piece from Stephen?

Silhouette -Stephen Mundy

Stephen served two years of a four-year prison sentence at HMP Lewes, Sussex. “While I was in prison I was given the choice of working in the workshop, or going to education,” he says, “I chose education. I was very mentally ill, and practicing art was a real benefit to my mental health. I applied to college on release but didn’t have anywhere to live. Luckily since release I have been in temporary, supported housing, and doing well at college.”

We have three pieces from Stephen available to order online from The Big Issue shop. Go on, have a browse! Buy one for yourself, for a friend, for your mum, for your gran and know that you’re supporting that artist in the process.
